چکیده

Abstract. Jana CL, Jusoh I. 2021. Structure and Tree Species Composition of Forest Fringe A Fragment in an Oil Palm Plantation at Suai, Sarawak, Malaysian Borne. Biodiversitas 22: 3013-3019. fragments oil palm plantations are remnants the original forest tract with various sizes shapes after clearing forested lands for crops roads. Fragmented forests usually created fringe or edge habitats that differ light intensity, temperature, humidity, heavy rainfall, strong winds from its core. The study was aimed to determine structure tree species composition a fragmented plantation Sarawak. This established total 24 sampling plots within fringe. enumeration identification were conducted all trees diameter breast height 5 cm higher. 59 families comprised 274 948 individuals recorded. aboveground biomass stand 260 Mg ha?¹. Elateriospermum tapos predominant, family Dipterocarpaceace dominated Based on calculated indices, diversity richness considered high, while dispersion individual random but unevenly distributed. Natural regeneration is sustainable. intact, without significant disturbance, whole fragment self-sustain.

Spatial variability and estimation of tree attributes in a plantation forest in the Caspian region of Iran using geostatistical analysis

This research was conducted to investigate spatial variability and estimate tree attributes in a plantation forest in the Caspian region of Iran using geostatistical analysis. Sampling was performed based on a 50m?125m systematic grid in a maple stand (Acer velutinum Boiss) 18 years of age using circular samples of 200m2 area. Totally, 96 sample plots were measured in 63 hectares and 14.25 he...

Continental Shelf Sediments of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo

Sediment distributions in deep sea influence the benthic community structure and thus play an important role in shaping the marine ecosystem. Several studies on sediment characteristics had been conducted in South China Sea (SCS), but only limited to coastal areas of regions within SCS territories. Therefore, this study was carried out to analyze the benthic sediment profile in an area beyond 1...

The Impact of Selective-Logging and Forest Clearance for Oil Palm on Fungal Communities in Borneo

Tropical forests are being rapidly altered by logging, and cleared for agriculture. Understanding the effects of these land use changes on soil fungi, which play vital roles in the soil ecosystem functioning and services, is a major conservation frontier. Using 454-pyrosequencing of the ITS1 region of extracted soil DNA, we compared communities of soil fungi between unlogged, once-logged, and t...

Long-term changes in forest structure and species composition of an upland oak forest in Arkansas

Describing long-term dynamics in oak stands is hindered by a lack of archival data. In this study, archival data from the 1934 inventory of a 673ha area within the Sylamore Experimental Forest were compared to a recent 2002 inventory to quantify changes in forest structure and species composition of this upland oak forest in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. When established in 1934, the Sylamor...

Rapid conversions and avoided deforestation: examining four decades of industrial plantation expansion in Borneo

New plantations can either cause deforestation by replacing natural forests or avoid this by using previously cleared areas. The extent of these two situations is contested in tropical biodiversity hotspots where objective data are limited. Here, we explore delays between deforestation and the establishment of industrial tree plantations on Borneo using satellite imagery. Between 1973 and 2015 ...
